Board of Supervisors Recognize National WIC Breastfeeding Week
The Mohave County Board of Supervisors and Board of Health have officially signed a proclamation declaring August 1–7, 2025, as National WIC Breastfeeding Week in Mohave County.
National WIC Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually across the United States to highlight the importance of breastfeeding for the health and well-being of infants, mothers, and families. This observance also recognizes the efforts of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in supporting breastfeeding through education, peer counseling, and resources.
“Breastfeeding provides unmatched health benefits for babies and mothers,” said Brenda LoBue, Nutrition and Health Promotions Manager. “By recognizing National WIC Breastfeeding Week, our leaders reinforce our commitment and dedication to supporting families and making sure that every child in Mohave County has the best possible start in life.”
Breastfeeding fosters a healthier community by:
- Offering vital nutrients and antibodies that shield infants from diseases.
- Decreasing the likelihood of chronic health issues for both mothers and their children.
- Enhancing the connection between mother and child.
- Lowering healthcare expenses by encouraging improved long-term health results.
The MCDPH WIC program operates throughout the year to advocate for, safeguard, and assist breastfeeding mothers in an effort to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Board of Supervisors and the Board of Health for this recognition,” says LoBue. “Their support demonstrates a county-wide commitment to healthy families and communities.”
