Mohave County Successfully Administers Colorado City Special Election

The Mohave County Recorder’s Office and Election’s Department have completed the administration of the Town of Colorado City’s Special Election held on May 20th, 2025. A total of 248 ballots were cast out of 1,843 active registered voters, resulting in a 13.4% turnout.

All active voters were mailed a ballot beginning April 23rd, in accordance with Arizona’s election law governing ballot-by-mail elections for cities and towns.

Ballots were due by 7:00pm on Election Day and could be returned by mail or dropped off at the ballot replacement site in Colorado City on Election Day. The election results remain unofficial until canvassed by the Colorado City Town Council, which will be completed prior to June 9th.

Ballot Language:
AMENDING TITLE III, CHAPTER 30, SECTION 020, OF THE TOWN OF COLORADO CITY, ARIZONA CODE OF ORDINANCES; RELATING TO THE DIRECT ELECTION OF THE MAYOR BY THE PEOPLE
REQUIRES THE ORDINANCE STATING THE MAYOR SHALL BE ELECTED BY THE COUNCIL BE CHANGED TO ALLOW FOR THE DIRECT ELECTION OF THE MAYOR BY THE ELECTORS OF COLORADO CITY FOR A FOUR-YEAR TERM.  

A “yes” vote shall have the effect of amending the Colorado City Ordinance requiring the mayor be elected by the Council to allow for the mayor to be elected directly by the electors of Colorado City for a four-year term. 

A “no” vote shall have the effect of keeping the current ordinance related to the election of the mayor.
