PROPER HANDWASHING

WHEN TO WASH YOUR HANDS

  • After using the restroom
  • After touching any soiled object or surface
  • After coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose
  • After cleaning, taking out garbage or putting away supplies
  • After smoking, eating or drinking
  • After touching or scratching any area of the body (ears, mouth, nose, hair, etc.)
  • After handling raw food – particularly meat, poultry and foods served uncooked
  • After handling dirty dishes and before handling clean dishes

HOW TO WASH YOUR HANDS

  • Using soap and warm water, lather and rub vigorously for 20 seconds (sing “Happy Birthday” twice)
  • Wash your hands and the exposed portions of your arms, clean between your fingers and under your fingernails
  • Rinse with clean, warm water
  • Dry with a paper towel or an air blower
  • Use a paper towel to turn off the water and open the restroom door
