PROPER HANDWASHING
WHEN TO WASH YOUR HANDS
- After using the restroom
- After touching any soiled object or surface
- After coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose
- After cleaning, taking out garbage or putting away supplies
- After smoking, eating or drinking
- After touching or scratching any area of the body (ears, mouth, nose, hair, etc.)
- After handling raw food – particularly meat, poultry and foods served uncooked
- After handling dirty dishes and before handling clean dishes
HOW TO WASH YOUR HANDS
- Using soap and warm water, lather and rub vigorously for 20 seconds (sing “Happy Birthday” twice)
- Wash your hands and the exposed portions of your arms, clean between your fingers and under your fingernails
- Rinse with clean, warm water
- Dry with a paper towel or an air blower
- Use a paper towel to turn off the water and open the restroom door
