Citizen Involvement is essential to conduct open, accurate and fair elections at the polls. With your help we can all be assured that our elections will be conducted with the upmost integrity and accuracy. On Election Day our Poll Workers are the "Gatekeepers of our Republic".
To be a Poll Worker you must:
- Be a registered voter in Mohave County
- Be able to work a very long day, usually from 5:00 AM, possibly until 9:00 PM, in some cases; (You will not be allowed to leave the polling facility during that time. However you will have breaks for lunch, etc. Most of our polling facilities have kitchen areas, you can bring food for yourself, or, some of our boards plan a potluck for the day);
- Attend a required training class prior to the election, which will last approximately four hours and you will receive a manual for your study and reference;.
- Open and Close the polling place;
- Set up voting equipment;
- Assist voters;
- Distribute ballots; and
- Maintain the integrity of elections at the polling place.
Any registered voter in Mohave County that is bilingual or knows sign language, and is willing to work as a poll worker should contact the Elections Department.
Poll Worker Compensation:
- $20.00 to attend training class. If you do not work election day this will not be paid
- $100.00 for pre-election set-up and election day; a total of $120.00, includes training. If you do not help with the pre-election set-up $10.00 will be deducted from your pay.
- Pay checks will be issued 2-3 weeks after Election Day
- $20.00 to attend training class. If you do not work election day this will not be paid
- $145.00 for pre-election set-up and election day; a total of $165.00, includes training.
- Pay checks will be issued 2-3 weeks after Election Day
- Paid at the Federal mileage rate for mileage >20 miles one-way.
What does an Election Worker do?
- Open and Close the polling place
- Set up Voting equipment
- Assist Voters
- Distribute ballots
- Maintain the integrity of elections at the polling place
Students working at the polls on election day shall:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Submit an application that includes parent or guardian approval and school written permission
- Attend a mandatory training class
- Help with pre-election set up
- Work the same hours as other poll workers
