Become a Mohave County Poll Worker 

Poll workers play an essential role in conducting secure and accurate elections in Mohave County. Serving as a poll worker is a great way to get involved in your community and learn more about the election process. 

No prior election experience is required. The Elections Department provides training to prepare poll workers for their Election Day responsibilities. 

Who Can Be a Poll Worker? 

Poll worker assignments are made by the Elections Department in accordance with Arizona law and the staffing needs of each polling location.

What Should I Expect? 

Election Day is a long but rewarding day. Poll workers generally report to their assigned polling location at 5:00 a.m. and remain until all closing procedures are complete, which may be as late as 8:00 or 9:00 p.m.  

Serving as a poll worker is an all-day commitment. Poll workers do not work in shifts and must be available for the entire Election Day, which may be up to 14 hours. 

Appropriate breaks are provided, and workers should plan to bring any meals, snacks, medications, or other personal items they may need during the day. 

Before Election Day, poll workers are also required to attend training and assist with setting up their assigned polling location. 

What Do Poll Workers Do? 

Poll workers work as a team to operate their assigned polling location. Each poll worker is assigned a specific position and receives training on the responsibilities of that position. 

Depending on the assignment, poll workers may: 

Compensation 

Poll Workers: $120 total 
Inspectors: $165 total 

Student Poll Workers: $120 total 

Compensation includes $20 for required training and pay for pre-election setup and Election Day. Training pay is only provided to those who work on Election Day. Poll workers who do not participate in required pre-election setup will have $10 deducted from their total compensation. 

Eligible poll workers may receive mileage reimbursement at the applicable federal mileage rate for qualifying travel exceeding 20 miles one way. 

Paychecks are generally issued 2–3 weeks after Election Day. 

Student Poll Workers 

Under Arizona law, a student who is not yet eligible to vote may serve as a poll worker if the student: 

Student poll workers are also expected to assist with pre-election setup and work the same Election Day hours as other poll workers. Students receive the same compensation as regular poll workers.
