Public Health Nuisance Complaints
Environmental Health may investigate certain nuisance conditions that could impact public health or sanitation, including:
• Standing and/or stagnant water
• Excessive animal waste
• Sewage concerns
• Conditions contributing to flies, rodents, or pests
Complaints are reviewed and evaluated to determine jurisdiction and potential public health risk. If valid and within Environmental Health authority, the property owner may be notified.
What Complaints May Fall Outside Environmental Health Jurisdiction?
Certain concerns may fall outside Environmental Health authority, including:
• General neighbor disputes
• Noise complaints
• HOA issues
• Weeds or overgrown vegetation
• Mold or indoor air quality concerns
• Certain indoor housing conditions
• Abandoned vehicles
If possible, staff may help direct residents to the appropriate agency or department.
Food Sales on Social Media or From Home
Food sold through social media, pop-up operations, or home-based businesses may still require licensing depending on the type of food being sold.
Arizona Cottage Food laws allow many foods to be prepared in home kitchens when registered under the Cottage Food Program.
