Mohave County School Superintendent John Warren
Mohave County School Superintendent John Warren is an experienced educator with over 30 years of public education service. Superintendent Warren’s experience includes serving as a 3rd grade Teacher, a self-contained 6th grade Teacher, Junior High School Gifted Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Superintendent. In his role, Superintendent Warren is responsible for overseeing school district governing board elections, providing school finance support to school districts, appointing members to fill school board vacancies including Mohave College governing board member vacancies, and maintaining home school records.
John Warren’s formative school years as a child were spent being educated in Department of Defense schools throughout the United States of America and Europe while his father served in the United States Army. Upon his father’s retirement from the Army, his family returned to its roots in southern Arizona where John attended Tombstone High School from 1979-1982 and was active in student government and athletics. Upon graduation John attended Cochise College to pursue a degree in Fire Science while working as a wildland firefighter on the Coronado National Forest. John eventually transferred to attend Northern Arizona University. While attending NAU, John continued working as a wildland firefighter for the Coconino National Forest where he rose to the ranks of Mormon Lake Hotshot Squad Boss, and Blue Ridge Hotshot Foreman. Upon graduation from NAU, John took his first teaching position in Needles California, where he coached football and track as well. While teaching, John continued to fight fires during the summer months for the Bureau of Land Management in Kingman as an Air Tanker Manager until 2003. John went on to serve as the Principal/Superintendent of the Topock Elementary School District for 20 ½ years placing him in the top 5% of Superintendents in the State of Arizona for longevity according to the Arizona School Boards Association data.
While at Topock School John earned several educational awards including News channel 3 Silver Apple Award in 1997-1998, VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award 1999-2000, Mohave County Teacher of the Year in 2002, Tri-State Honoring Education Administrator of the Year 2011, and Arizona Game and Fish Department Educator of the Year 2015.
John’s hobbies include traveling and exploring, along with bird hunting with his two yellow labrador retrievers Chip and Sandy. John is also a passionate conservationist serving as a volunteer for the Arizona Game and Fish Department as well as the Nevada Department of Wildlife. John is a Life Member of the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society. John is also a Rotarian, and has been a board member, including serving as president of the Arizona Rural Schools Association for over 20 years.
