I am running for the Colorado River Union High School District #2 Governing Board because I believe our community deserves a school district that puts students first, supports educators, values parental involvement, and prepares every student for success after graduation.
I have called this community home since the early 2000s and am personally invested in the future of our community. As a parent, healthcare professional, nurse educator, and current master's degree student in nursing education, I understand the importance of strong leadership, accountability, effective education, and responsible decision-making. My professional experiences have reinforced the value of listening, evaluating evidence, communicating clearly, and working collaboratively to solve problems. They have also given me firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities facing both students and educators today.
If elected, I will focus on expanding meaningful opportunities for student success. While college is an important pathway, it is not the only measure of achievement. Every student should have access to strong academic programs, dual enrollment opportunities, career and technical education, STEM programs, military pathways, internships, apprenticeships, and workforce preparation. Our goal should be for every graduate to leave high school with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue the path that best aligns with their goals and aspirations.
Academic excellence and student achievement must remain priorities. We should maintain high standards while ensuring students have the resources and support necessary to meet those expectations. Technology can be a valuable educational tool when used appropriately, but it should enhance quality instruction rather than replace meaningful teaching, personal relationships, and critical thinking.
Recruiting and retaining exceptional educators is equally important. Teachers are the foundation of student success, and we must foster an environment where talented professionals choose to build long-term careers in our district. Competitive compensation is important, but so are supportive leadership, professional development opportunities, adequate classroom resources, recognition, and a positive workplace culture. Because our district does not have the same local tax base as some neighboring districts, I believe we must actively pursue grants, partnerships, and other funding opportunities that strengthen our schools without placing additional burdens on families.
Parents and families must also have a meaningful voice in our schools. Strong partnerships between schools and families are essential to student success. Open communication, mutual respect, transparency, and accountability from district leadership and the governing board are critical to maintaining public trust.
I am committed to responsible fiscal stewardship. Every dollar entrusted to the district should be evaluated based on its impact on students, educators, and the long-term sustainability of our schools. The governing board has a responsibility to provide effective oversight, establish sound policies, and ensure resources are allocated wisely and efficiently.
I am not running to advance a personal agenda. I am running to listen, ask thoughtful questions, evaluate the facts, and work collaboratively to find practical solutions. My goal is to help Colorado River Union High School District #2 provide students with strong academics, meaningful career opportunities, dedicated educators, and a clear path to success.
