Dorn Wilcox

District:

Colorado River Union High School District #2

Type:

Certified

Candidate Statement:

I am Dorn Wilcox and I am running for the Colorado River Union High School #2 (CRUHSD) school board. I have lived in the area since 1990. I was an educator for CRUHSD for 35 years until I retired in 2025.
All students of the district need to be given a chance to achieve at the highest level possible. We need to have qualified teachers and support staff to help the students in the classroom. Students need to have tools to use to be successful and this does not always mean more technology. We also need to make sure all students are safe at school from the time they leave home until they get back home.
The staff need to know they are supported by the school board. Financial support is always nice but that is not the only way the board should help the teachers. They need support from the board by giving them the tools, technology and training needed to help all students achieve. We need to have full time administration and not teachers taken out of the classroom to help with administrative duties. Guidance counselors need the time to meet with students to help with classes, apply for scholarships and any crisis that students may be having at school or home.
We have many non profits and businesses that are in our community that help the schools on a daily basis. Organizations like Rotary and Kaiwanis give tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to our students each year. Sometimes these organizations need help from the schools and schools/district should be willing to lend their support to these organizations as much as possible. Our local businesses give a lot of money to the student organizations and they need to be recognized not only by the district but the schools.
The school board has basically one employee that reports to them. That is the superintendent. It is the responsibility of the board to make sure the superintendent is setting a budget that the community can support, hiring qualified employees, building a positive relationship with the community and that includes other school districts.
I ask for your vote to support the students, staff and community of the Colorado River Union High School District.
