Candidate Statement:
I am Lisa Roman, running for re-election to the Lake Havasu Unified School District #1 Governing Board. My husband and I have lived in Lake Havasu City with our children for the past twelve years. During that time, I have volunteered hundreds of hours to improve our local schools. Before joining the school board, I served on the Starline Elementary PTA, the Thunderbolt Middle School Booster Club, and the Lake Havasu High School Counseling Advisory Committee. All three of my children are now graduates of Lake Havasu High School, and as I watch them and other recent graduates in our community navigate early adulthood, I’m proud to have played a role in providing a robust academic environment.
Since joining the LHUSD #1 governing board in 2019, I have helped build a stronger district for students, staff, and families. We now have preschool offered on three elementary campuses, in addition to the long-standing Little Knights program at Lake Havasu High School. We piloted the Core Knowledge Curriculum at Oro Grande Classical Academy and ultimately voted to bring it to every elementary school in our district. We approved English and Math textbooks for our middle and high school that can be adapted for each student, whether they need an extra challenge or extra support. Our board has funded laptop computers and wireless access for high schoolers to ensure students develop technological skills in a safe, structured setting. We have expanded our Career and Technical Education (CTE) catalog to cover a wide range of interests, including emergency medical services, software design, business management, cabinet-making, HVAC maintenance, and fire services, and many of our classes are formatted so students can earn college credit or industry certifications at no cost to their families. From early childhood to early adulthood, our board has designed an academic experience that fosters the shared knowledge, practical skills, and strong character habits our children need.
My time on the board has also included a special emphasis on staff recruitment and retention. Our board recently approved a substantial increase to staff pay and implemented a salary schedule to ensure compensation grows in tandem with our employees’ years of service. We’ve updated our benefits package to attract talent locally, from neighboring communities, and across Arizona. We already know Havasu is a special place to live; I’ve helped make our district a great place to work, too.
Lake Havasu Unified School District has been a place of growth over the past several years. Through collaboration and leadership, our governing team has facilitated schools that receive A grades from the Arizona Department of Education, teachers who earn National Board Certificates, and students who win accolades and scholarships at a local, state, and federal level.
I remain committed to responsible governance, academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and open communication with our community. It would be an honor to continue serving the students, families, and employees of Lake Havasu Unified School District, and I respectfully ask for your support for another term on the Governing Board.
Candidate Disclosure:
I DO NOT have any relationships by affinity, by consanguinity or by law to the third degree that exist between myself and any current governing board members or other candidates for election to the same governing board.
